Simon Kent is a highly respected public policy and public administration leader with almost three decades of experience across government, ministerial offices, higher education and the public purpose sector. He is currently Chief of Staff to the Minister for Early Childhood Education and Minister for Youth, Senator the Hon Dr Jess Walsh, in the Australian Parliament, where he provides strategic leadership and policy advice on issues shaping the future of education, young people and social outcomes across Australia.
Throughout his career, Simon has developed a reputation for turning complex policy challenges into practical action. He has worked at the highest levels of government as a ministerial adviser, senior public servant and executive leader, helping to shape policy across education, skills, Indigenous affairs, social policy and public sector reform. His experience spans both central agencies and frontline service delivery departments, giving him a deep understanding of how governments can translate ambitious ideas into meaningful outcomes for communities.
Before returning to Parliament, Simon served as Deputy CEO, Thought Leadership at ANZSOG, where he strengthened the connection between research, policy and practice for public sector leaders across Australia and New Zealand. Known for his evidence-informed approach, collaborative leadership style and commitment to developing high-performing teams, Simon is recognised as a trusted adviser and connector who brings together diverse perspectives to address complex public policy challenges.
