Katrina is a Manager in the Science Development group within the Department of Environment and Science. She is currently focussed on implementation of the reforms to Queensland’s Biodiscovery Act 2004 to protect First Nations peoples’ traditional knowledge. Katrina's other projects for this team include promoting the contribution of science to a sustainable and thriving economy, gene technology regulation, and science infrastructure funding. Katrina has previously worked in the federal environment department, on projects including reforming the $450 million Regional Land Partnerships program and reforming environmental approvals processes under the Environment Protection (Biodiversity Conservation) Act 1999. She has a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and bachelor’s degrees with honours in Law and Environmental Management (Sustainable Development) from the University of Queensland. Katrina was born in Rockhampton, the land of Darumbal people, but has spent most of her life in Brisbane on the land of the Turrbul and Yuggera people. She lives at Mt Gravatt – called ‘Kagarr Mabul’ by its traditional custodians, which means “place of echidnas".
