Researcher focused on public sector policy, governance and reform
Dr Kristen Smith is a medical anthropologist in the Indigenous Studies Unit, Centre for Health Equity at The University of Melbourne. Kristen’s recent work includes ethnographic research investigating family violence experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the East Kimberley (Western Australia) and the border regions of Mildura and Albury-Wodonga (Victoria and New South Wales). Kristen works collaboratively across academic, government, Aboriginal community-controlled and not-for-profit sectors, applying participatory methods framed by medical anthropology, rights-based and public health frameworks.
