Dr Claire Yorke is an author and academic based at the Centre for Future Defence and National Security at Deakin University in Canberra. Her research focuses on empathy and emotions in leadership, politics, and international relations. Claire has held prestigious fellowships at Yale University and the University of Southern Denmark. Her work combines academic research with policy relevance, and she began her career in the British Parliament before working at Chatham House. She is the author of Empathy in Politics and Leadership: The Key to Transforming Our World (Yale University Press, 2025), which explores why empathy is a critical leadership capability for building trust and navigating complexity.
