We are all familiar with rating systems – from credit ratings by Moody’s and Standards & Poor’s, to energy ratings on our appliances and star ratings for hotels - but what about ratings by regulators? Increasingly, ratings are used by regulators to summarise information about service providers as a form of quality disclosure in a market. The theory and practice of regulatory ratings systems will be examined across a number of regulatory sectors.
