Overview
Understanding Behaviour to Improve Regulatory Outcomes
Effective regulation starts with understanding why people behave the way they do. By examining the motivations and incentives that drive compliance and non-compliance, regulators can move beyond treating symptoms and instead address the underlying causes of regulatory issues.
In this panel discussion, experts from the rail safety, early childhood education and care, and waste crime sectors will explore how behavioural drivers differ across industries and how these differences shape regulatory strategies and responses. The discussion will highlight the importance of tailoring regulatory approaches to the unique characteristics of regulated environments, organisations and individuals.
Panel members will share practical insights into how changing incentives influence behaviour over time, the effectiveness of various regulatory tools, and the lessons learned from both successful interventions and regulatory challenges. Attendees will gain valuable perspectives on designing more targeted, evidence-based and effective regulatory responses.
