Bringing the not-for-profit sector development blueprint to life
The Not-for-profit Sector Development Blueprint sets out a 10-year plan to make Australia’s charities and community organisations ‘future ready’. The Blueprint recommends 18 initiatives ranging from boosting philanthropy and modernising governance structures to strengthening volunteer participation and respecting Indigenous voices in sector leadership.
While the Government has not formally accepted the Blueprint elements are already being adopted operationally. This workshop will explore how public sector and the social economy can work together to bring the Blueprint to life and maximise the public outcomes.
Join ANZSOG Academic Fellow Prof Jo Barraket AM from the University of Melbourne for this roundtable to explore how governments can adopt a more relational approach to public management and governance, and what this means for leaders seeking to work effectively across sectors and systems. Jo played a leading role in drafting the Blueprint, and is keen to work with public sector to bring it to life.
This roundtable will also provide an opportunity to share insights with participants from across government, civil society, education and industry to build networks, understanding and relationships.
What to expect
In this second workshop, participants will be introduced to the key elements of the Blueprint and its potential for transforming the public sectors relationship with the social economy and engage in group discussion to work through next steps for implementation.
The session is an opportunity for active discussion, participation and sharing of knowledge and experience on this critical issue. The group will feature participants from government as well as community and research organisations and provide opportunities to network and build relationships between social economy and public sector actors.
Insights from the roundtable will be summarised and published with participant contributions anonymised unless otherwise agreed.

Professor Jo Barraket AM
Professor Jo Barraket is one of Australia's leading scholars in social enterprise, the social economy and public policy. Her Fellowship work explores relational public management and how governments can work more effectively alongside social enterprises, not-for-profits and community organisations to achieve public outcomes.
