Graham Fletcher

    Graham Fletcher is a retired public servant who worked in DFAT from 1983 to 2019. His main career focus was the bilateral relationship between Australia and China. During 2019-23 he was Australia’s ambassador in Beijing, a period which saw serious political and trade difficulties, the Covid pandemic and a process of gradual improvement. 

    In 2014, Graham led the negotiating team which concluded the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement. 

    Graham’s other postings were to Washington (2011-13), New Caledonia (1992-94) and three other assignments in Beijing (1986-88, 1997-2000, and 2004-08). 

    Graham retired in August 2025. His final role was Deputy Secretary International and Security in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
