Dr Andy Mycock

    Dr Andrew Mycock is a widely-recognised political scientist specialising in policy engagement and research–government partnerships, regularly advising the UK government and sitting on national and local policy commissions. He plays a senior leadership role in the UK’s University Policy Engagement Network (UPEN), a nationwide initiative connecting 120 universities with the UK public sector to strengthen evidence-informed policymaking.

    His work focuses on how academic knowledge is mobilised to support policymaking through systems of engagement, brokerage and partnership. Dr Mycock works closely with government departments, universities and policy organisations across the UK and internationally to strengthen community engagement and participation in evidence-informed public policymaking.

    Committed to public engagement and research translation, he regularly contributes to BBC local and international online, print and broadcast media, and served as an elected trustee (2019-25) of the UK Political Studies Association.

    Fellowship focus

    Building Connections and Collaborations between ANZSOG and UPEN

    Dr Mycock will support knowledge exchange between ANZSOG and UPEN, sharing international insights on effective policy engagement and building stronger research–policy connections. His work examines how universities and governments can overcome institutional and cultural barriers to create more effective, evidence-informed policy relationships.
