NRCoP VIC Local Chapter Presents: Getting General Duties Right: From policy rationale to implementation

Free

  • In-person (Melbourne)
  • 18 June 2026
  • 1.5 hours (In-person)

Overview

General duties are increasingly used across regulatory contexts, and have been a focus of recent legislative reforms in Victoria.

The claim: general duties offer flexibility, durability and outcome-focused control without the limits of detailed prescription.

However, designing duties that are effective, enforceable and workable in practice isn’t a simple task. The change can create new risks and challenges for harm reduction.

Join an expert panel to share experiences in delivering on a duties approach. We’ll discuss regulator and duty holder readiness, and the tools and capabilities needed to implement duties effectively and defensibly.

Ideal for regulators, policymakers, and compliance professionals, seeking both strategic insight and practical application.

Department of Treasury and Finance will also share a consultation draft of new guidance on general duties at this event.

Places are limited, so be sure to register early to secure your spot.
