24 Years of ANZSOG: Partnering with public servants for a career of learning and leadership

As ANZSOG marks its 24th year, we are looking forward.

Over more than two decades, ANZSOG has evolved alongside the public service – adapting how we support leadership and capability in response to changing public expectations, policy environments and institutional complexity.

At our core, ANZSOG has always been about connection, learning and insight in service of better public outcomes. In an operating environment that is moving faster, is more complex and more digital, we’re adapting how we bring people together, how we teach, and how we translate evidence into practice to support exceptional public leadership.

ANZSOG is changing to provide a broader suite of programs to public servants at different stages in their career, as their roles, responsibilities and challenges evolve.

This shift has been shaped by our close relationships with the sector across jurisdictions. Public servants are asking for learning that fits real jobs and real time pressures, builds confidence and judgement, and strengthens leadership at all levels.

We want to walk alongside public servants throughout their careers - from those stepping into leadership for the first time, through to senior executives grappling with system‑wide change.

Supporting career long learning

That evolution is evident in ANZSOG’s refreshed and expanded portfolio of offerings that support development across a public servant’s career.

For emerging and mid‑career leaders, new Public Leadership Accelerators such as Foundations of Public Leadership and Strategic Leadership in the Public Sector build core leadership capability and strategic judgement.

For more senior leaders, immersive experiences such as the re-built Executive Fellows Program brings a fresh take on the long-running program and a new Leading Exponential Change intensive supports executives to lead transformation in complex environments.

To support the public service in the areas that need more immediate understanding, ANZSOG’s expanded Professional Learning Series brings bite sized, practical programs focused on topics like strategic policy delivery, ethical use of AI, and fiscal resilience - enabling targeted capability development at the point of need.

As ANZSOG celebrates 24 years, the essence of our mission remains unchanged: strengthening public sector capability to serve communities and deliver public governance that people trust. What is changing is how that mission is delivered - through a lifelong partnership with the people who make public institutions work.
