Paulleen Markwort is the Director of Aboriginal Strategy and Oversight at Victoria’s Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. Paulleenhas ten years’ experience working on strategic, state-wide reform initiatives in Aboriginal policy development and program delivery.
Her innovative work has included the development of a design model which advances Aboriginal self-determination, and promotes person-centred services in place-based solutions. Paulleen’s family are from Longreach, Innagai country Queensland. She was born on Kamilaroi country, Queensland and raised on Wiradjuri country central NSW. Paulleen is a proud Murri woman and has lived in Victoria for twenty years. She is known in the Victorian Aboriginal community for her authentic engagement and collaborative approach in achieving outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Paulleen has worked on various human services and health projects to translate the needs of community back into government contexts to support outcomes, focused investment and advancing self-determination for Aboriginal Victorians. As the inaugural Specialist Aboriginal Adviser to the Deputy Secretary, Children and Families reform, she worked across multiple reform streams, ensuring consistency in relation to engagement with Aboriginal communities, and to ensure that budget and reform proposals incorporated Aboriginal voice.
With over a decade of experience in the Victorian public services, she brings a wealth of experience in human service policy and service delivery.
