ANZSOG is delighted to announce the appointment of James Green as Executive Director, Advisory, after an international executive search and rigorous external review.

Dean and CEO, Professor Caron Beaton-Wells said that she was looking forward to having James as a permanent member of the Executive Team with ‘an exciting and ambitious vision for the Advisory portfolio’.

“James joined ANZSOG in May 2021 as Director of Custom Education and has made a huge contribution to ANZSOG through a range of roles, during that time,” she said.

“He has also led the Executive Education team, the Thought Leadership function from August 2022 – 2023, and the Advisory portfolio since August 2023, acting as Executive Director and helping to steer the organisation through a significant period of change.”

Mr Green has brought wide experience working in engagement and advisory roles to ANZSOG, including ten years at the University of Melbourne working with business, governments and communities to enrich the University’s academic purpose and ensure the relevance and impact of its work in society.  He also has experience in private consulting, working with governments and corporate clients on mainly economic and public policy engagements.

He said he views it as “a privilege to work with an organisation that’s meaningfully shaped the career journeys of so many of our public service leaders”. He says he “is excited to build on this reputation, and through our Advisory work, develop new, trusted learning partnerships with public services across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

“Our mission is to learn, innovate and engage with the challenges and priorities of public service. That commitment relies on constant engagement with governments, so we can develop responsive and forward-looking programming that brings new insights to the practice of public leadership.

“This is something that is especially valuable in times like these where the work of the public sector is more uncertain and complex than ever.”
