Overview
In our modern globalised world, the flow of commodities, people and information across our borders continues to expand in scale and complexity.
Every week, hundreds of thousands of air and sea passengers arrive in Australia, along with cargo consignments from all over the globe. Our border agencies work tirelessly to manage this stream protecting the Australian community, economy and way of life from pandemics, pests and disease, transnational crime and supply chain vulnerabilities.
These last couple of years have seen our borders rise in prominence in a way we have never experienced before, with international and jurisdictional borders bolstered to contain the spread of COVID. In an ever changing space, new border evasion methodologies used to illegally import commodities of interest to DAFF and ABF demonstrate the need for border agencies to work collaboratively, including the sharing of contemporary intelligence.
Is there anything “ordinary” about this job? Or is everyday “extraordinary”?
Join us to hear from some of our most senior regulators on how they work together to keep the Australian border secure. How do they share information and intelligence across agencies? What have the last five years taught them and what lies ahead for the next five years?
Facilitator: Adam Fennessy PSM, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Guest Presenter 1: Kaylene Dale, Deputy Commissioner, Australian Border Force
Guest Presenter 2: Justine Saunders APM, Deputy Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Guest Presenter 3: Dr Grant Pink, RECAP Consultants and Pracademic Advisor to the NRCoP
