Sarah Proudfoot is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), leading the agency’s work to promote competition, protect consumer rights and ensure fair trading.

She was appointed CEO in May 2025. Sarah has more than 20 years of experience at the ACCC including as Executive General Manager of the Infrastructure Division, where she oversaw regulation of sectors including telecommunications, energy, transport, and childcare. She also led the ACCC’s National Anti-Scam Centre, driving national collaborative efforts to combat online fraud, and spent almost 10 years with the Australian Energy Regulator leading work on retail energy markets. In her early career with the ACCC, Sarah worked in the agency’s consumer outreach and small business compliance work.

Sarah brings a strong public service ethos to her work and is passionate about the ACCC’s role in benefitting the lives of Australian consumers every day.

Sarah holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Communications).
