David Pryce commenced as a Deputy Director-General with the ACT Public Service in February 2015 after 28 years of combined law enforcement with the Australian Federal Police (including ACT Policing) and the Northern Territory Police Force. David grew up in the Northern Territory and commenced his policing career with the NT Police Force as a Cadet in 1987. During his time as a police officer, David performed various roles in urban, rural and remote policing situations throughout the Northern Territory including as Officer-in-Charge of the Ntaria (Hermannsburg), Jabiru and Katherine Police Stations. He qualified as a Detective and has successfully led the full spectrum of criminal investigations and policing operations including major crimes, emergency events and critical incidents. In 2004, David was promoted to the commissioned officer rank of Superintendent, after which time he performed a variety of roles including Major Crime, Drugs & Intelligence, Staff Officer to the Deputy Commissioner before being appointed as Chief of Staff to the Commissioner and CEO of the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services in 2008. In 2010, David was appointed as a Commander with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in the role of Manager Policy Coordination with responsibility for providing strategic policy advice in support of national security and law enforcement matters involving the AFP. In 2012, David was appointed to the role of Deputy Chief Police Officer (Crime) within ACT Policing overseeing a range of specialist policing services. In this operational role, he represented ACT Policing on various national law enforcement committees and performed extensive relief duties as the Chief Police Officer for the ACT. In February 2015, David was appointed as Deputy Director-General Community Safety with the Justice and Community Safety (JACS) Directorate. In this role, David was responsible for oversighting the ACT Emergency Services Agency, ACT Corrective Services including the ACT’s only adult prison, Security and Emergency Management arrangements for the ACT, and played a key role in managing the policing arrangement for ACT Policing with the Australian Federal Police. During his time with JACS, David also performed extensive duties as the Acting Director-General. In September 2019, David commenced as the Head of Access Canberra and ACT Registrar-General, leading an agency of around 700 FTE delivering a range of government services and regulatory functions for the ACT community.
