Dr. Simon Tyler (B. Psych. Sci. (Hons), MS. Psychology) is a registered psychologist whose clinical work focusses primarily on treating men who are experiencing mental health and suicidal challenges. Much of this work is undertaken with those who have been psychologically injured as the result of employment within the construction and other male dominated industries allowing for a wide range of clinical experience and understanding in this area.

While continually working clinically to support this clientele, as a member of the University of South Australia’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research Group (Division of Health Sciences) Simon’s research has added rigorous understanding of the nature and drivers of suicide and suicidal behaviors in the construction industry, both globally and within Australia.

As the recipient of the Inaugural Allison Milner Memorial Fund Scholarship funded by MATES in Construction, Simon’s research placed significant focus on the role of masculinity in suicide and suicidal behaviors in the construction industry, to assist the industry and suicide prevention programs on the best ways to educate, address and utilize associated attitudes and behaviors that result from masculine cultures.

Currently, Simon is also working within the Mentally Healthy Workplaces team at Return-to-Work South Australia to educate, promote and develop mentally healthy workplaces, leading to safer and more productive workplaces.
