ANZSOG has opened applications for the second round of its Academic Fellows Program, commencing in 2026 and offering academics the chance to contribute to ANZSOG’s work, deepen their research and strengthen their engagement with practitioners and academic peers in the field of public governance.
This second round of the program offers fellowships available across Semester 1 and Semester 2, 2026. We offer short-term Fellowships in two streams:
- Resident Academic Fellows, open to scholars from ANZSOG Partner Universities, and
- Visiting Academic Fellows, open to academics from other Australian and New Zealand universities, as well as international institutions.
The Fellowships program is one of the ways ANZSOG is strengthening its important and longstanding interface with academia, integral to its unique position at the intersection of universities and public services.
Dean and CEO, Professor Caron Beaton-Wells has highlighted ANZSOG’s distinctive approach to education and research harnessing its extensive connections to both practitioners and academia.
“Consistent with ANZSOG’s 2030 Strategy, we are focused on the transformation of governance to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is integral to this goal that we strengthen our academic ecosystem and relationships.”
The first round of Fellows has been selected from a strong field of applicants, and they will begin their engagement with ANZSOG in the coming months.
The three Resident Fellows are:
- Associate Professor Yee-Fui Ng, from Monash University
- Associate Professor Grant Walton, from ANU
- Associate Professor Dr Azad Singh Bali, from the University of Melbourne
They will be joined by International Visiting Fellow, Associate Professor Kimberly Moloney from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar.
Resident Academic and Visiting Academic Fellowships will continue to help deepen ties and collaboration between ANZSOG, our partner universities and the broader academic sector, and help us continue to produce research relevant to the work of government.
Funding is provided to universities under a ‘buyout’ model for Resident Fellows to reduce their normal workload, and join ANZSOG part-time on a secondment arrangement.
Visiting Fellowships are tailored to assist academics who are undertaking a planned (university-funded or supported) mobility program, including sabbaticals and special studies programs. ANZSOG provides a contribution towards travel and accommodation to spend time working with and through ANZSOG and also offers workspace and access to our practitioner and academic networks.
Fellows would be able to apply for a visit spanning one to three months to situate some or all of their study program with ANZSOG, contributing to the intellectual environment by connecting with ANZSOG faculty, staff and fellows, sharing and advancing their research and scholarship.
