Job description:
DEC plays a key role in protecting Defence capability by contributing to Australia’s counter-proliferation efforts and supporting Australian industry through the timely consideration of export permits.
Within the Regulatory Compliance Directorate, there are numerous roles vacant including as an APS 6 Auditor or as an APS 6 Compliance Assessment Officer.
As an APS 6 Auditor you will work in the Regulatory Compliance Directorate within Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC).
Your role:
– Accountable to conduct audits of programs, processes, systems and functions to provide assurance that export risks facing Defence are addressed and managed.
– Plan, manage and conduct audits of export permit holders within timeframes and in-line with the Defence Export Controls Compliance Framework to achieve the regulatory compliance business objectives of DEC Branch.
– Develop other Defence employees in the conduct of audits.
– Design audit plans, develop papers and reports, and contribute to the development of audit processes and procedures to achieve audit objectives.
– Apply auditing standards, policies, procedures, strategies to determine appropriate course of action for complex audit activities around export control activities.
– Engage professionally with stakeholders on audit issues in order to provide and obtain information and discuss audit findings with stakeholders.
– Analyse evidence and data, identify audit findings, develop recommendations and contribute to the preparation of papers and reports against audit objectives of identified issues and risk.
As an APS 6 Compliance Assessment Officer you will work in the Regulatory Compliance Directorate within Defence Export Controls Branch (DEC).
Your role:
– Under limited direction, perform complex compliance assessment work, in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures and work to agreed priorities and outcomes.
– Accountable to undertake compliance investigations, provide detailed compliance assessment reports outlining outcomes and developing appropriate compliance responses.
– Develop, implement and review compliance investigative, assessment and regulatory procedures, practices and frameworks.
– Contribute to the maintenance and review of compliance case management systems.
– Build and sustain effective relationships with team members, management and internal and external stakeholders.
– Research, interpret, analyse and provide advice on regulatory compliance investigations based on professional judgement, evaluating risks and in the context of a complex and changing environment.

– Under broad direction, perform complex compliance investigative and assessment work, in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures and work to agreed priorities and outcomes.
– Accountable to undertake compliance investigations, provide detailed compliance assessment reports outlining outcomes and developing appropriate compliance responses.
– Develop, implement and review compliance assessment and regulatory procedures, practices and frameworks.
– Contribute to the maintenance and review of compliance case management systems.

What you will be doing

- Leading the VEC’s newly established in-house legal function, including supervising other in-house lawyers and setting the strategic direction for the function
- Providing high quality, independent legal advice and guidance to the Electoral Commissioner, Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Electoral Integrity and Regulation and other executives on complex, sensitive, high-risk and time-critical matters
- Leading the VEC’s response and legal strategy for disputes and litigation, including appearing or instructing in courts, tribunals and other bodies
- Playing a key role in the VEC’s advocacy work for effective legislative change
What you will bring to the role
- A detailed understanding and leading practice in administrative law, constitutional law, government law, and regulatory compliance and enforcement
- Demonstrated experience undertaking high quality and timely legal analysis and research, preparing advice and recommendations, and managing and supervising other lawyers at various stages of practice and experience
- Demonstrated ability providing legal advice on complex issues under limited direction, including during times of high urgency and significant uncertainty.

Job description:
There is currently one (1) permanent – full time position available for immediate filling.
The Compliance Training and Development Coordinator (Fisheries) leads the design, delivery, evaluation, and assessment of staff training and induction programs for field and specialist compliance staff. This role manages the recruitment and selection of compliance officer trainees and oversees staff development aligned with national compliance training standards. The Coordinator liaises with law enforcement training bodies, such as the WA Police Academy, to deliver high-quality programs for fisheries and other compliance functions undertaken by the Department. They will also manage team resources, analyse training needs, and develop targeted learning initiatives as part of this role.
We are looking for individuals with:
- Certificate IV Workplace Trainer and Assessor
- Well-developed knowledge and understanding of field-based compliance operations and their governance frameworks.
- Well-developed knowledge and experience in establishing, implementing and managing training programs.
- Experience in field-based compliance and investigations.
