Starting her career in local laws with Local Government, Shelley then joined the Queensland Government in 1997 as a Compliance Officer with the Liquor Licensing Division in the Mount Isa regional office. Over the years she moved across a range of positions within the (Queensland) Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) progressing to senior roles of Principal Investigator and Manager Compliance within the Investigations Branch. More recently, Shelley transferred from OLGR’s head office in Brisbane to take up a role in Far North Queensland as the Regional Manager, which allows her to connect with the communities, consider local issues and deliver services directly through a number of teams she manages across Cairns and Rockhampton. Shelley and her teams are responsible for regulating the liquor and the gambling industries across a vast and diverse geographical regional area of nearly 600,000 square kilometres (nearly 3 times the size of the United Kingdom). This includes regulation of about 1360 licensed premises, and a casino, through licensing, proactive and reactive compliance strategies, and implementing initiatives that minimise harm associated with the sale and consumption of liquor and gaming activity. Shelley has always been a positive advocate for her peers on their development and leadership pathway; she is an innovative and driven leader who is passionate about learning from others, challenging herself and commits to continuous improvement.
